‘GTA V’ Rockstar Editor Coming To Console After All

So remember that PC exclusive tool that Grand Theft Auto V players have been able to use? The Rockstar Editor won’t be exclusive to the PC GTA V game for too much longer, as revealed by a post on Rockstar’s Newswire.

In an “Asked & Answered” post about Grand Theft Auto V, Rockstar has confirmed that the team is working on bringing the Rockstar Editor to current-gen consoles. This is after Rockstar has claimed that the video editor would be an exclusive feature to the PC version of GTA V.

“I would like to use [the Rockstar Editor] but I’m on PS4. Hey Rockstar, can you do something please for PS4 players?” – Black_Pawn_01…

“The Rockstar Editor is an advanced tool requiring additional processing power so it would not be compatible with [GTA V] on the older systems, but we are currently working on a version tailored for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles – and we hope to release that sometime this summer, or as soon as it is ready.”

As the quote states, the Rockstar Editor wouldn’t be able to come to the last-gen versions of GTA V, but Xbox One and PS4 owners can expect their own tailor-made version of Grand Theft Auto‘s video editor soon. According to the comments on the Newswire post, fans of GTA V are happy to see the potential for current-gen players to use the video editor with their versions of GTA V.

The Q&A covered other topics as well, including the news that the PC-only radio station “The Lab” will also be coming to consoles soon, and that mods won’t get you banned in GTA V’s single-player, as the Inquisitr previously reported.

The fact that the exclusive (for now) Rockstar Editor is coming to other versions of Grand Theft Auto V is a good thing for players all around. While last-gen consumers will miss out, it isn’t for any malicious reason other than the technology simply can’t handle the tool. However, GTA V fans on current-gen will be able to create in-game videos without the need of using a capture card or the console’s limited game-DVR functionality in the future.

Exclusivity doesn’t help consumers, so if the tool is physically possible to enact on current-gen, then those GTA V fans should have access to the content. Rockstar apparently agrees, which is why exclusive doesn’t seem to be sticking here any longer, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing in the end for players.
