Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s Daughter Jailed For Allegedly Violating Bail Conditions

Jeri Wright, the daughter of Rev. Jeremiah Wright, has more legal woes after allegedly violating the terms of her bail/supervised release on a prior federal conviction.

As the Inquisitr previously reported, Jeri Wright was indicted in April 2013 for allegedly participating in a money laundering scheme involving state-grant funds. She was found guilty on various charges, including the underlying offense and lying to investigators and a grand jury in March, 2014, after a week-long trial.

Since then, while awaiting sentencing, she has been free on bond, which a judge has now reportedly revoked.

As far as the March 2014 conviction is concerned, the Homewood-Flossmoor Patch claimed that “Wright pocketed $11,000 from a $1.2 million state grant obtained by Country Club Hills Police Chief Regina Evans, her childhood friend. Wright helped Evans launder the grant money, which was intended for job training through an organization called We Are Our Brother’s Keeper. Essentially, the only thing they kept was the taxpayer money intended to help people get jobs.”

As you may recall, her dad, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, is the controversial “God damn America” preacher whose Chicago church Barack Obama attended for 20 years.

“U.S. District Judge Sue E. Myerscough ruled there was probable cause to believe [Jeri] Wright committed a separate theft while on bail, thereby violating terms of her supervised release,” the Chicago Sun-Times explained. In this new allegation, Wright, 49, allegedly last year collected about $8,000 in ghost payroll from a temporary staffing agency authorized by a since-fired Indiana plant manager also under investigation. Wright’s lawyer denied the theft charge and claimed in court that the pay was legitimately earned.

Jeri Wright was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service and presumably is being held in a federal lockup.

In the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, Rev. Jeremiah Wright — who even the Obama campaign at the time conceded had engaged in inflammatory rhetoric — told his congregation that “America’s chickens are coming home to roost.” Added Politico: “The reverend, who officiated at the church Obama attended for 20 years, became a lightning rod during the 2008 presidential election cycle for speeches he gave saying African-Americans should not say ‘God bless America,’ but ‘God damn America.’ He also said America brought on the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks by participating in its own kind of ‘terrorism,’ such as the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.”

Rev. Wright performed the marriage ceremony for Barack and Michelle Obama and baptized their two daughters.

Real Time host Bill Maher has previously insisted that Barack Obama is a “drop-dead atheist” and only worshipped at Rev. Wright’s church to advance his political career.

Jeri Wright was originally scheduled to be sentenced in the money laundering case in early April. The judge, however, has decided to reschedule the sentencing hearing for March 20.
