‘Once Upon A Time’ Season 4: Why A Trip To Wonderland Might Be In The Cards

Once Upon a Time fans continue to get teased with tidbits about the show’s upcoming story arc based on Disney’s Frozen, and they were recently treated to the picture above. It’s the first set photo showing Anna (Elizabeth Lail) and Elsa (Georgina Haig) together.

According to E! Online, the beloved sisters from Disney Frozen were shown visiting their parents’ graves in footage that was shared at San Diego Comic-Con.

It’s fun to speculate about where the show is going with the Frozen story arc, but it will only take up the first 11 episodes of the season. So where will Once Upon a Time head to after taking viewers to Arendelle?

Maybe TV Line just dropped a big hint about what will happen during the second half of Season 4. Here’s what Michael Ausiello wrote about the addition of a new character:

“For Season 4’s fourth episode, the ABC series is casting the role of an elderly, grizzled and unflappable knight who for many, many years has dedicated himself to serving a righteous cause. Anyone else getting a Holy Grail vibe from this…?”

It makes sense to speculate that the show is adding one of King Arthur’s knights to mix. After all, Once Upon a Time fans have already meet Sir Lancelot. However, the “unflappable knight” could also be the clumsy White Knight from Through the Looking-Glass, the sequel to Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

Introducing the White Knight character during the first half of the season could set Once Upon a Time viewers up for a trip to Wonderland during the second half of the season. And this isn’t the only hint that Wonderland will play a large part in what happens during Season 4. As The Inquisitr previously reported, Once Upon a Time in Wonderland star Michael Socha is joining the OUAT cast. He played the Knave of Hearts in the cancelled spinoff series.

Because Once Upon a Time in Wonderland got cancelled so soon, the writers probably didn’t get to tell all the wonderful stories from Wonderland that they planned on telling. Perhaps they’ll recycle these stories by featuring them on Once Upon a Time. It’s also possible that Elizabeth Mitchell was cast as a character from Wonderland — she might be playing the evil Snow Queen from the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale that inspired Disney’s Frozen.

Once Upon a Time fans already know that the show likes to combine fairy tale characters. Mr. Gold is the crocodile from Peter Pan, the Beast from Beauty and the Beast, and Rumpelstiltskin. Perhaps Elizabeth Mitchell’s Snow Queen will also be the White Queen from Through the Looking-Glass.

Once Upon a Time also has one big incentive for going to Wonderland — doing so would help drum up a little buzz for Disney’s Through the Looking Glass, the sequel to the 2010 Alice in Wonderland movie starring Anne Hathaway as the White Queen and Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter. According to Just Jared, principal production has just begun on the movie.

Once Upon a Time returns on Sunday, September 28 on ABC. Would you like the show to go to Wonderland after the Frozen story arc ends?
