CM Punk And AJ Lee Married In Private Ceremony, What It Means For WWE

CM Punk and AJ Lee were married this weekend in a private ceremony, which could actually be bad news for fans hoping for a WWE comeback from Punk.

The pair of WWE stars started dating last fall, and the relationship reportedly moved along quite quickly. In April it was reported that CM Punk (whose real name is Phillip Jack Brooks), popped the question to AJ Lee (April Jeanette Mendez).

No date was set, and neither wrestler shared much information about their relationship or their marriage plans.

In fact, not much is even known now about the wedding of CM Punk and AJ Lee. Pro Wrestling Insider, one of the few outlets to report on their ceremony, wasn’t even sure what day of the week it took place on.

The report noted:

“We have heard from a lot of people asking if CM Punk and AJ Lee were married yesterday afternoon. From what I was told, they weren’t at that time but they did get married either last night or early this morning. We wish them all of the best in their new marriage.

“We didn’t acknowledge it because we were told it was a small, private affair and they wanted privacy. I hope everyone gives it to them.”

CM Punk chose to walk away from the WWE earlier this year, though since then there have been continual rumors that he is planning a return to the ring. But this weekend’s wedding, combined with the fact that CM Punk and AJ Lee are looking to stay under the radar, seems to confirm the fact that CM Punk is happy in his retirement.

Other sources close to the wrestler confirmed that he had been hampered by some nagging injuries, ones that accumulated through the thousands of hours he put in between the independent wrestling circuit and his breakthrough in the WWE.

CM Punk hasn’t spoken publicly about his reasons for leaving the WWE, but did say in an interview earlier this year that he’s happy being retired.

“It feels good,” he said of being retired and getting to spend more time on charity work. “It’s a lot easier when you hook up with organizations like the Cubs and being friends with some of the team members. It isn’t hard to support their charities. Plus I get to do fun stuff like bowl and paint chairs and play whiffle ball with Bill Murray. It was super fun and for a great cause. You’ve got athletes and actresses and musicians and all kinds of people painting chairs. I’m super happy to be a part of it.”

So while this weekend’s news is good for the newly married CM Punk and AJ Lee, it might not be too welcome to fans hoping to see him in the ring again.
