So this is what happens when you have two stubborn parties come together. The Hanshin Expressway takes a shortcut through the 5th and 7th floors of the Fukushima Gate Tower; also known as the Bee Hive. Apparently back in 1992; when this conglomeration of road and building came together, the building owner wanted to tear down the old building and rebuild. However the city planners had already allocated that space for the expressway.
This is the agreement they came to when neither party wanted to change their plans.

I agree, it bugs the hell out of me when people can't take ten seconds to actually type out what they want to say. Anyways, back on topic: It's interesting that they have tunnels not only in mountains, but buildings too.

this is definitely shopped. the shading and clarity of the image sections aren't natural at all. cool idea though.
oh and i live in seattle and the monorail doesnt really go through any buildings. just along side them and you can access them through some department stores.

I thought this was a rather clever solution, and helps add to the grand metropolis feel of Tokyo. I actually had the pleasure of driving through there a few years ago. I thought it was very cool.
