Yacht Designed By Apple’s Steve Jobs Unveiled

Apple founder Steve Jobs was a technological revolutionary in the world of computers, but he apparently spent years designing a yacht.

The so-called super yacht, which was completed one year after Jobs’ death, is named Venus, after the Roman goddess of love. Fox News reports that the ship is 250-feet long and it is steered by a group of 27 inch iMac computers.

The hull is aluminum, and Steve Jobs’ yacht contains its own speed boat. It is believed to be faster than similarly sized nautical vessels. French designer Philippe Starck helped Jobs design the interior, which includes a jacuzzi.

The Daily Mail reports that Jobs worked on the yacht up until near the end of his life, despite knowing he was unlikely to see it completed.

“I know that it’s possible I will die and leave Laurene with a half-built boat,” Jobs told his biographer. “But I have to keep going on it. If I don’t, it’s an admission that I’m about to die.”

Jobs died in October of 2011 of complications from pancreatic cancer.

The yacht was built by Feadship, a Dutch company that has specialized in making custom yachts since the 1920s. Jobs’ rewarded all those who worked on the ship with an iPod shuffle. The total cost of that gift, and the yacht itself, was not made known.

The official unveiling of the ship will take place in Aalsmeer, Netherlands with the Jobs family on hand. The date of the Venus’ maiden voyage is not yet known, but to be sure when the Jobs family takes their first ride on the last masterpiece of Apple’s founder, they’ll no doubt be doing so in sleek elegant comfort.

The Dutch blog OneMoreThing captured video of the Steve Jobs’ yacht, a screenshot of which can be seen above.
