Wrestlemania is the greatest stage in pro wrestling. It’s not just a one-night extravaganza like it was years ago. Wrestlemania has become to WWE what the Super Bowl is to the NFL. A week of hype, entertainment, and the best show the sport has to offer. Just as the Super Bowl is the one time of year a lot of people watch football, Wrestlemania is the one time of year that a lot of people will admit to watching wrestling.
In recent years, WWE has made it a full weekend experience of having an NXT Takeover on Friday, the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony on Saturday, and then Wrestlemania on Sunday. The three days has become an overload of content, which is both exhausting and the most exciting time of the year. It’s also revealed during the event that next year’s show will be held in the following city to start the hype all over again.
Earlier this year, WWE held the biggest Wrestlemania in wrestling history. Dallas, Texas and the AT&T Stadium broke the all-time attendance record with a little over one hundred thousand people in attendance for Wrestlemania 32 . It was also announced that Wrestlemania 33 would be held in Orlando next year, but it was only recently been revealed that WWE will be making some major changes to Wrestlemania weekend.
It has been reported that WWE is making some big changes to next year’s schedule and Wrestlemania 33 in Orlando will be seeing WWE run the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony onto Friday and NXT Takeover will be held on Saturday as it has been for the WWE Summerslam weekend and the upcoming WWE Survivor Series weekend in three weeks. There are many reasons why this change is a good thing for the weekend.
The idea behind the changes is for the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony to not run late on the night before the biggest show of the year. Too often, the ceremony runs long and forces the WWE Superstars to sit for an extended period of time instead of resting for the grandest stage of them all or working on their matches. By having the NXT Takeover show on Saturday instead, the WWE Hall of Fame won’t be as much of a burden.
Not only that, but the wrestling shows will be able to go on back to back nights like they do the rest of the year. NXT and the main roster going back to back have been successful for WWE Summerslam weekend, and last year’s Wrestlemania . Many fans may not be able to attend all three events, so this makes it a little easier for them, especially with the struggle of staying in the city for three straight days.
Along with the news that WWE is altering the Wrestlemania schedule around starting next year in Orlando for Wrestlemania 33 , it is being reported by another source that there are four cities in the running for Wrestlemania 34 in 2018. The one city that is standing out as of right now is Minneapolis, Minnesota.
If Minneapolis is to host Wrestlemania 34 in 2018, the most likely location for the show would be the US Bank Stadium, which is the current home of the Minnesota Vikings. The capacity for the stadium is roughly sixty-six thousand, but it has been extended to fit seventy thousand strong. WWE has a way of stretching out those numbers, so it’s not insane to think they could get that number as high as seventy-five.
As of this writing, the other three cities in the running haven’t been revealed, but WWE has been sticking to Florida, California, New York, and a few other major cities to host Wrestlemania . Minneapolis would be a different vibe that would give the WWE Universe a Wrestlemania experience never before seen.
