World Emjoi Day: What It Is And Why We Celebrate It

Today is World Emoji Day, but many people are asking themselves what this holiday is and wondering why we celebrate it. Some people are still unclear as to what an emoji is. Emojis are the little smiley faces, icons, and graphics that people use on social media networks, web pages, and mobile phones. Originally, an emoji consisted of happy or sad faces, but over time, emojis have evolved to include numerous icons used to express emotions. Many people add emojis to their communications every day and July 17 is the time set aside for the world to honor and celebrate these little clips of graphic wonder. Emojis transform dull and boring communication into fun and entertaining pieces of text. Emojis serve many purposes and as the Internet provides new ways of communicating, emojis can help get a point across without much confusion. Emojis were first used in Japan in the ’90s, but have since spread worldwide. They help people communicate and express ideas regardless of their culture or ethnicity. People who don’t speak the same language can use emojis to help smooth translations and make it easier to understand what other people are trying to communicate. It is only fitting that since emojis are used extensively online and through the Internet, that World Emoji Day is celebrated through social media networks with the hashtag #worldemojiday. The following is an explanation of why we should celebrate emojis from the World Emoji Day website.

According to the official World Emjoi Day website, the date July 17 was picked for the observance because the iOS calendar emoji displays July 17. Jeremy Burge created World Emoji Day in 2014. Burge also founded Emojipedia . The Emojipedia blog shares tips for those who want to celebrate World Emoji Day and essentially states people should celebrate in any way they please. Many people throw emoji parties and attend exhibits. Everyone can participate in World Emjoi Day simply by sharing emojis through their favorite social media networks such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Snapchat.

Emojis are always evolving and demand for new, popular emojis is high. When a group of people rally around a subject or topic, they often express a desire to have an emoji that fits within their theme. From political causes and organizations to fans of celebrities and television shows, emojis help those who communicate frequently on a subject better express their ideas and feelings in a fun and global way.
