A slender woman set up dates on Tinder using her real profile picture, then showed up looking much different than her picture. You won’t believe how the men reacted.
When dating online, women are most afraid of meeting a serial killer, while men are afraid of meeting — you guessed it — fat women. At least according to a survey cited by this Denver Post article about the 2011 HBO documentary “When Strangers Click: Five Stories From the Internet.”
Simple Pickup , a paid site that offers men tips for picking up women, decided to test that theory by conducting a social experiment. They had both a woman and a man don a fat suit and meet dates they had set up on Tinder. The experiment revealed that men’s reactions to finding out their dates weighed “a little more than her photo suggests” were far different — and meaner — than those of women meeting a man heavier than he looked in his photo.
First they set up dates for a slim, attractive woman on Tinder. Using body adhesives and make up, they made her appear 100 pounds heavier, and then set up a hidden camera to record the men’s reactions.
The reactions ranged from surprised to rude to just plain mean. Of the five Tinder matches, only one stayed for the entire date, and even he joked with her, asking, “Do you like to eat?”
The Huffington Post called the men’s reactions “appalling,” noting, “A man doesn’t have to be attracted to a woman to respect her.”
“Yet that’s exactly what unfolds in the video. Just because a woman is fat doesn’t mean she isn’t sexy — and encountering a fat woman rather than a thin one does not relieve anyone from practicing human decency.”

The male subject, however, experienced different reactions from the women he met on Tinder. The women were much nicer. Although acknowledging that he looked different from his picture, most of them did not seem to be repulsed by him, at least they didn’t show it the way the men did.
All of the women actually stayed for the date and seemed to forgive him for his deceptive photographs.
A few of his Tinder matches even accepted his invitation to a second date, unlike the woman in the experiment – none of her Tinder matches asked to see her again. One of the women even gave him a kiss.
