Authorities in Glasgow, Scotland, are looking for 21-year-old Stephanie Best and her 8-year-old little stepbrother George Wells. STV News reports that the siblings vanished around 4 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon. Reports indicate that the woman and her little brother left on foot to go see one of her friends but never returned. Search efforts have since been launched with no success thus far.
Authorities say that Best and her 8-year-old stepbrother have a good relationship, and that he voluntarily left with her on Wednesday. They have also revealed that the missing 21-year-old woman doesn’t have a cellphone or money. A spokesperson with the Govan Police Service clarified the timeline of the duo’s disappearance.
“Although not related, Stephanie and George live in the same house and enjoy a good relationship. Stephanie said she was heading out to see a friend and would be back in 20 minutes and George asked to go with her, so he is comfortable in her company.”
They were to arrive back home in 20 minutes, indicating that their destination wasn’t very far from their residence. However, it has now been longer than 24 hours, and neither George or Stephanie have been located. Meanwhile, authorities are scouring surveillance footage in hopes of finding evidence.
The Milngavie Herald reports that Stephanie Best also goes by the name Stephanie Willis, and she was last seen wearing ripped stonewashed denim jeans and a black faux fur sweater. She was also reportedly wearing a brown dread-locked wig at the time of her disappearance. Family members are becoming increasingly worried with the time that has passed because they’ve never gone missing before.
The spokesperson with Govan Police Service didn’t clarify on whether or not foul play is a factor in this disappearance. However, she did indicate that they are investigating this as a voluntary disappearance even though the family is “desperately worried.”
“I would appeal to anyone who knows Stephanie, or who has seen either or both of them to contact police as soon as they can. We would also appeal to Stephanie to get in touch and bring George home as their families are desperately worried about them.”
Hopefully Stephanie Best and George Wells are located safely so they can be returned to their family. Otherwise, authorities must get to the bottom of this disappearance as time continues to pass without them being found.
