Last week, T.I.’s wife Tameka Cottle, otherwise known as reality star Tiny, grabbed a ton of headlines by changing her eye color . T.I.’s wife had participated in an unorthodox surgery to change the color of her eyes from brown to ice grey.
TV personality Wendy Williams had a lot to say about Tiny’s change in eye color, and she didn’t mince words on what she thought. During a segment on her talk show, Williams was horrified, and likened the permanent procedure to “ethnic erasure.”
Wendy is friendly with Tiny, who was just on her show a few days back to promote a road trip show, but when it comes to her eye surgery, Williams sees the bigger picture.
“I believe in changing things. If there’s something you don’t like… but this right here is going too far. Tiny, I love you a lot… but I have to call it like I see it here.”
Wendy continued, “The eyes are the window to the soul. And getting your eyes permanently done like this… is to me is as bad as people who bleach their skin. I mean you can self hate your flat boobs. You can self hate your flat butt… but the eyes? I know color contacts could be scratchy but people still wear them. It’s as crazy as Sammy Sosa bleaching his skin.”
For those who aren’t aware, here’s how the procedure went down. According to Tiny’s surgeon Dr. Menif Montasser, this is an implant surgery. Tiny’s corneas had to be changed out in order to change the color of her eyes. The surgeon told Jezebel the specifics about the controversial surgery.
“This surgery is done under local or general anesthesia with three incisions, one is 2 millimeters and the other two are 0.8 millimeters in the eye’s peripheral. The implant is folded in to an injector, then it’s injected in the eye after filling the eye with viscoelastic.”
He continued, “The next day she woke up with new ice grey eyes and no pain or redness.”
Tiny has defended herself on Good Morning America , “I looked in the mirror and I was like ‘they’re amazing, I love them. I just wanted to do something different, and I have the right to do that. It’s my body.”
It should be noted that this particular surgery is illegal in America, and took place in Tunisia in Africa while Tiny was visiting T.I. for a series of concerts.
