Twitter Drops LinkedIn Partnership, No More Automatic Crossposting

Since 2009 LinkedIn and Twitter have worked together to cross-promote user posts, now that partnership has come to an abrupt end.

LinedIn on Friday announced via a blog post that the company would no long sync updates from Twitter and the 140-character micro-blogging site would no longer cross promote LinkedIn user activity.

While LinkedIn users can still create new updates and click a button to share posts via Twitter they will no longer be able to share posts from Twitter to LinkedIn as easily.

Ryan Roslansky, head of content products at LinkedIn noted in a company blog post :

“As Twitter shared earlier today in a blog post from Michael Sippey, they are increasingly focused on “providing the core Twitter consumption experience through a consistent set of products and tools.” Consistent with Twitter’s evolving platform efforts, Tweets will no longer be displayed on LinkedIn starting later today. We know many of you value Twitter as an additional way to broadcast professional content beyond your LinkedIn connections. Moving forward, you will still be able to share your updates with your Twitter audience by posting them on LinkedIn.”

LinkedIn users don’t need to do anything following the decision, their Twitter updates will simply fail to show up inside their LinkedIn account.

I personally have always found it silly that many users share their Twitter updates with LinkedIn, especially as many of those clients on both systems often post personal Twitter messages deemed “not-suitable” for a business environment. On the other hand experts in their field used Twitter to share public information pertaining to their industry, updates that appeared within LinkedIn to their colleagues, potential employers and others in their industry.
