The upcoming Trump phone that made headlines is already seeing revisions. The T1 phone, which does not even have a prototype yet, is undergoing major changes. One of them is the company’s decision to quit claiming that the phone is “Made in America.” Another major change that the phone will be seeing is its size.
Earlier this month, the Trump organization announced that it would be releasing a new phone. The smartphone would be sold at $499 and comes with its own phone plan priced at $47.45 per month.
The golden phone was heavily marketed on its USP, which was that it was “built in America” according to their official website. The claim is now nowhere to be seen on the website.
“Instead, the Trump Mobile website now includes what can only be described as vague, pro-American gestures in the direction of smartphone manufacturing,” The Verge reports. The website now reads, “Premium Performance. Proudly American.”
Another change in the website notes that the phone is “designed with American values in mind.” Interestingly, the Trump Organization decided to ditch the claim soon after it backfired on them. Several industry experts came forward to note that it is impossible to build a phone fully from scratch in the U.S. currently.
Professor Tinglong Dai, an operations management professor at Johns Hopkins’ Carey Business School, was one of them. The professor pointed out that it would be “unlikely” for the claim to be true. “They don’t even have a working prototype,” he noted in an interview with the BBC.

Another major change that the phone is seeing, even before the prototype is out, is its size. The phone’s official website previously noted that it would come with a 6.78-inch AMOLED screen. The size of the phone seems to have been reduced significantly, with the website now noting it’ll be 6.25 inches. The official website that previously claimed the phone would come with 12GB of RAM says that it’ll have no RAM at all.
Another major change that people who are keen to buy the phone will see concerns regarding the shipping period. The T1 phone was scheduled to be shipped in September of this year. The website now says that the phone will be shipped “later this year.”
A report from The Verge claims that there is a real possibility that the Trump Organization switched suppliers for the upcoming phone. “Whatever’s going on, it’s certainly another reason to doubt whether this phone is for real,” the publication notes.

The T1 became the target of critics before it even had the chance to be released. People had much to say as soon as the organization announced that it would be venturing into the telecom industry. Many raised ethical concerns about the phone and Donald Trump’s association with it.
Even though the phone was being launched under the leadership of the President’s son, the heavy MAGA branding on it was hard to miss. The official website for the phone even featured Trump’s slogan, “Make America Great Again.”
