New Orleans native Lil Wayne (Dwayne Michael Carter Jr.) was born on September 27, 1982. Lil Wayne began his rap career when he was discovered by Cash Money Records at age 8 after recording a rap on owner Brian Williams’ answering machine. Lil Wayne’s career broke out in 1999 when “Bling Bling” become a chart-topper and Guerilla Warfare went platinum. Lil Wayne parted ways with Cash Money Records in February of 2015.
