‘The X-Files’ Reopened? Studio Head Says ‘Everybody Is On Board’

The X-Files ended its 6 episode season 10 event on what might have been the most intense cliffhanger in the entire history of The X-Files , leaving many fans wondering, hoping, and praying for at least one more season.

As fans scour the internet for clues that another season might be on the way and finding nothing to inspire hope, Fox studio heads have finally stepped up to suggest that there is more on the way from the David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson led series.

The X-Files Are Still Open, According To Fox Studio Heads

Evidence that The X-Files are still open is scarce, or, at least, it was scarce until Fox CEOs and chairmen Dana Walden and Gary Newman opened up about the future of the series . The Fox network has released a 2016-2017 line up and The X-Files was noticeably absent from the list of new and returning shows, leaving many to conclude that we may never learn the truth about what happens to Fox Mulder and Dana Scully on that gridlocked highway. Walden and Newman, however, are urging fans not to give up on a return of The X-Files , pointing out that the studio would be foolish to walk away from a series that still draws such high ratings.

“We’ve had conversations with Chris [Carter, The X-Files creator] and David and Gillian,” Walden revealed. “I believe everybody is on board to do another installment of the show.”

Walden implied that the next installment of The X-Files hinges greatly on the schedules of Duchovny, Anderson, and Carter. Recognizing that each of the X-Files leads has his and her individual obligations to other projects, the Fox executive said that season 11 of The X-Files will have to wait for everyone to be free.

“Hopefully that will come together this season so that this time next year, we’ll have something exciting to announce,” Walden added.

Gary Newman Offers More Confirmation That The X-Files Will Ultimately Return

Newman elaborated on Walden’s thoughts about The X-Files and it seemed as though he was more at liberty to speak freely than his co-chairman, because he confirmed what Walden had only suggested.

“We’ve had conversations with all of them that have included discussion about what kind of episodic order makes sense…Conversations are on-going and I can tell you that Chris and David and Gillian all would like to do more of these.”

Newman added that Dana Walden was correct in her prediction that a new season of The X-Files wouldn’t be available before next year, the 2017-2018 television season.

It would seem, even from the first episode of season 10, that there had been an intention shared by everyone involved that The X-Files would be returning for more than one season.

The X-Files premiered season 10 by introducing a conspiracy so grand in scope that it would certainly take more than six episodes to investigate, particularly with more than half of those episodes diverting from that main story arc with typical monster of the week episodes. That concept that there was too much left untouched by the airing of the final episode only deepened the bittersweet feeling experienced by many fans of The X-Files .

Scully’s remorse over the fate of William, the son she shared with Fox Mulder, seemed to become more than a mere nod to previous seasons, as Dana became more and more consumed by what may have happened to her only child. As the episodes wore on, fans became increasingly convinced that William would play some part in the events currently unfolding in the tenth installment of The X-Files . Yet, as the season ended, fans were left feeling as despondent over William’s fate as Dana Scully herself.

Meanwhile, even the primary story arc was left hanging, as were Mulder, Scully, and their new X-Files partners. The last episode left off with Mulder and company looking up at a menacing U.F.O., as it hovered over the gridlocked highway. With no escape readily available and Mulder’s very life hanging in the balance, the episode ended.

More X-Files must surely be on the way.
