‘The Walking Dead’ Season 8 Spoilers: Is Negan’s Death The Only Way To End The Show?

War has officially broken out on Season 8 of The Walking Dead , leaving fans worried about who might meet their end when the dust finally settles. While producers have promised some major deaths this season, is there a chance that Rick (Andrew Lincoln) will finally kill Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and end the war once and for all?

According to TV Guide , Negan actually survives the All-Out-War storyline in the comics and is imprisoned for an extended time. During his confinement, Negan develops an odd relationship with Carl (Chandler Riggs) and doesn’t even attempt to escape. The show could certainly follow the source material and keep Negan alive, but his death might be a better option.

Negan has been the main villain for the past three seasons on the show and, while Morgan has done an excellent job with the character, fans have waited patiently to see a satisfying end to his rule. Keeping him alive offers almost zero closure and probably wouldn’t help with the already sliding ratings. Killing Negan after a drawn-out war, on the other hand, would definitely do the trick and avoid dragging his story out for too long.

As far as the comics are concerned, diverting from the source material has never been an issue on the show. In fact, some of the better storylines on The Walking Dead were never a part of the comics. In the original material, for example, Rick does not hook up with Michonne (Danai Gurira) and Daryl (Norman Reedus) isn’t even a character.

This doesn’t mean producers will kill Negan at the end of Season 8, but it does offer an interesting twist to think about. In the meantime, there are plenty of other characters we should be worried about getting the axe this year.

According to Comic Book , a flash-forward scene during the Season 8 premiere showed Rick mourning over two new grave markers at the Hilltop community. We don’t who the graves belong to, but it’s clear that they meant a lot to Rick. At this point, Rick is about the only character who is safe from the coming slaughter.

New episodes of The Walking Dead air Sunday nights on AMC, check out a preview for the next all-new episode below.
