Seahawks Trade John Moffitt To Cleveland Browns

The Seahawks traded guard John Moffitt to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for defensive end Brian Sanford. Both teams announced the trade on Monday.

Moffit is a third-year player from Wisconsin and was battling for a starting job at right guard with the Seahawks. But he appeared to be losing the job to second-year J.R. Sweezy.

Sanford is also in his third year , according to The Seattle Times. He was originally signed as an undrafted free agent and has played in just six games during his NFL career.

On Seattle’s depth chart, released Monday afternoon, Sanford appeared as left defensive tackle behind Tony McDaniel, Jordan Hill, and Jesse Williams.

John Moffitt, on the other hand, started 15 of the 17 games he played for the Seahawks in the past two years. He started in six games last year — four at right guard and two at left guard.

But now, the Seahawks trade puts him in position to play for the Browns. The ream reported on their official website on Monday that the trade was Cleveland’s fourth since April 1. And the team is excited to have him.

Browns Head Coach Rob Chudzinski released a statement about the trade for Moffitt, commenting that the player is “a tough and versatile lineman who will be in the mix for us upfront.”

The team’s CEO added, “We continue to look each day of the year for any opportunity to improve our roster.” Joe Banner went on to say, “We’re committed to building a team that can consistently compete in this league.”

And with Moffitt on board, they just might. The defensive lineman was Seattle’s third-round pick, and the 75th overall, in the 2011 NFL Draft. He went on to start the first nine games of his rookie year before a knee injury ended his season.

Do you think the Seahawks trade will benefit them during the upcoming NFL season?
