There is a new Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge update available, which further enhances the handset device’s security and performance. According to GSM Arena , the update is now rolling out to S6 Edge units in India.
The latest firmware update for the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, weighing in 63 MB, carries the build version G925IDVS3EPH2. The screenshot of the changelog posted on the publication revealed that the update comes with a “patch for critical security vulnerability.”
No specification was provided if the security improvement has something to do with Quadrooter, the most recent Android vulnerability reported that puts 900 million Android devices at risk. Sam Mobile explained that the security patch is probably not for it, noting that the exploit “can only work when someone manually installs apps on their phones and Google has said that Android’s inbuilt ‘Verify Apps’ feature can already block apps that contain QuadRooter code.”

The changelog also mentioned that this Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge update brings in “improved performance with efficient management system” as well as the following changes.
- Optimized closing unused applications
- Automatic deletion of unnecessary cache files
- Notification of unstable applications
Upon getting this incremental update, users can also expect improved stability from their Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. They should also know that reverting back to the old software after getting the latest Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge update is not an option. This is simply because of the updates made to the security policy, as noted on the changelog.
According to Team Android , the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge update is available via Over-The-Air (OTA), which means that an automatic push notification should arrive once the firmware becomes available. However, since the OTA update is being released in stages, it may take a while for some S6 Edge owners to receive the firmware.
It is possible to manually check the availability of the firmware. To do so, head to the Settings menu, select About Device, choose Software Updates, and, lastly, tap Check for Updates. The system will then begin searching for any firmware available, and if there’s one, users can simply follow the on-screen prompts to begin downloading and installing the update.

Team Android also noted that this might be the final update to roll out for Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge before it receives Google’s upcoming major OS update, the Android 7.0 Nougat.
Released March last year, Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge is the curved edge screen version of the standard flagship model, the Galaxy S6. It is equipped with a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED screen with 1440 x 2560p resolution and 577ppi pixel density, GSM Arena’s specs page for the phone listed. Keeping the display well protected is Corning Gorilla Glass 4. Out of the box, it came pre-installed with Android 5.0.2 Lollipop.
As for its under-the-hood specs, the S6 Edge is packed with an Exynos 7420 Octa chipset paired with 3 GB of RAM. Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge’s primary shooter carries a 16MP lens sensor and comes with features such as OIS, LED flash, face detection, autofocus, auto HDR, panorama, and more. The selfie shooter, on the other hand, has a 5MP lens.

Tech Radar’s review for Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge cited the smartphone’s “premium eye-catching design” as well as its stunning camera and powerful interface as its strengths. Meanwhile, not being waterproof and not having a microSD slot for memory expansion are included in the list of smartphone’s disadvantages, according to the review.
The publication’s verdict for the 2015 handset read, “The S6 Edge is a fantastic looking handset with plenty of power and an impressive camera, but a high price, poor battery performance and sub-par edge screen features stop it from achieving perfection.”
