Roll Royce has announced the addition of a new luxury convertible coupe to its roster of high-end cars, reports USA Today .

Luxury and comfort are synonymous with the Rolls Royce brand, and the company is seeking to bring these values to the convertible market, where space, especially in the back, has long been an issue.

The luxury convertible boasts a twin-turbo, 6.6-litre, V122, 563-horsepower engine with eight-speed transmission, and can reach a top speed of 155 miles per hour, hitting 0 to 60 in 4.9 seconds.

The car is 17.3 feet long, 6.4 feet wide and 4.9 feet high, it weighs 5,644-pounds and offers 575 pounds-feet of torque. Its combined fuel economy is 19.9 miles per gallon.

The Rolls Royce Dawn will debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show later this month, and in a press release the carmaker heralded its new luxury convertible as the quietest open-top car ever made, and the only true modern four-seater drop-head.

The car draws inspiration from the 28 rare Rolls Royce Silver Dawn luxury convertibles produced between 1950 and 1954. Its name was intended to embody the post-war zeitgeist as a world recovered from prolonged war and economic austerity.

Rolls Royce claim the Dawn marks a new age for convertible super luxury motoring one which backseat space and reduced stability is no longer sacrificed.

The Dawn stays faithful to Rolls Royce design principles and language with a 2:1 wheel height to body height ratio, elongated bonnet, short front overhang, long rear overhang, and high shoulder line.

Despite resembling the 2014 Wraith hard top, as noted by New York Daily News , Rolls Royce have been eager to emphasize the Dawn is not simply a convertible version of the Wraith, but a standalone car, with 80 percent of its exterior body panels being unique.

Newly designed suspension mitigates the instability and shakiness common to other convertible vehicles, securing passenger and driver comfort with the Rolls-Royce “magic carpet” ride.

The interior features open-pored Canadel paneling around the horse-shoe rear cabin, luxury leather seating, polished metal and matt chrome instrument.

Luxury extends towards the dashboard interface, fitted with the Spirit of Ecstasy Rotary Controller, and a touchpad that allows drivers access to media and navigation function.

Characters for navigation input or media searches can be finger-drawn like a smartphone, the dial allows you to scroll through menus and select functions.

Safety is enhanced by a head-up display and heat detection system that identifies both human and animal heat signatures and issues an audible warning to the driver of possible danger.

The luxury convertible also has Satellite Aided Transmission as standard, which utilises GPS data to assess the road beyond a driver ‘s range of sight and anticipate their next move based on location and driving style.

The Rolls Royce Dawn will sit at the top end of luxury convertible market selling for $500,000.
