Randy Weber may not be the first Republican politician to compare Barack Obama to Adolf Hitler, but his reason for making the comparison may be one the least-compelling. He made the comparison because Obama didn’t go to Paris to march with protesters in the #JeSuisCharlie march against terrorism.

On Sunday, millions of people marched through the streets of Paris in a unity rally meant to show support for the four cartoonists, and other innocent parties, slain in a terrorist attack last week. Radical Islamist jihadists carried out the attack on the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo , allegedly in retribution for the magazine publishing cartoons of the prophet Mohammed. While the marchers were joined by dignitaries and heads-of-state from some 40 nations, the U.S. was represented at the march by U.S. ambassador to France Jane Hartley. The decision to send such a low-level politician to the event was met with criticism in both the media and from the general public, and in a rare move, White House spokesperson Josh Earnest admitted that the Obama administration should have sent someone closer to the top, and apologized, according to The Washington Post .

“I think it’s fair to say that we should have sent someone with a higher profile.”

Randy Weber agreed. In his Tweet, Weber called to mind a bit of history that the French would rather forget: Adolf Hitler’s 1940 propaganda tour of German-occupied Paris. Although to be fair, he pointed out that Hitler’s visit to Paris was made “for the wrong reasons.”

Usually, whenever a politician or other public figure makes a remark on social media that is offensive, or otherwise poorly-thought-out, it gets taken down within a few hours. Not so for Randy Weber: as of this post, his tweet comparing Obama to Hitler is still posted on his Twitter account .

Randy Weber seems to be known for two things among political writers: his rather fanatical dislike of Barack Obama, and his fondness for making bombastic (and sometimes poorly-spelled, borderline nonsensical) tweets – usually about Barack Obama.

Do you believe that Randy Weber should apologize for comparing Barack Obama to Adolf Hitler? Sound off in the Comments below.
