Prison Break is not only famous for its cliffhangers but also for Michael Scofield and Sara Tancredi’s romance that blossomed in the infamous Fox River prison. Following the confirmation that FOX will have Prison Break Season 5 next year, viewers may again see the chemistry between Wentworth Miller and Sarah Wayne Callies.
Callies has no problem joining Prison Break Season 5 if the show will have “more story to tell.” She told Forbes that she was indeed approached by the production team to reprise her role.
“I’ve been approached. The talks are happening. I don’t know where they’re gonna go. You know, for me, it’s gotta begin and end with the material. Like, if the material is either worthy of the faith that the fans put in it or it’s not. I don’t want to do something that feels like a reunion because it would be cool to get the band back together. I want to do something because there’s more story to tell.”
There are no mentions, however, if Callies already signed a contract. Following her Prison Break stint, she was also seen in The Walking Dead . She will likewise star in another series next year, Colony.
Michael and Sara’s love story touched the viewers’ hearts because of the couple’s struggles. In the third season of the show, Michael went berserk because of Sara’s death which turned out to be fake. In the final episode of Prison Break Season 4, Sara was portrayed as a widow. In the latter part of the show, Sara received a DVD in which Michael revealed the reasons for his sacrifice. He also asked Lincoln and Sara to make sure that his child wouldn’t feel alone. The couple’s son, Michael Jr., made his first and only appearance in the finale.
Prison BreakSeason 5 will return with 10 episodes beginning March 2016. Apart from Miller and Callies, Dominic Purcell (Lincoln Burrows) and Robert Knepper (Theodore Bagwell aka T-Bag) are expected to reprise their roles. Prison BreakSeason 5 will be interesting for the fans because Michael died in the show’s finale episode in 2009.
Speculations are rife that Michael faked his death and the electrocution did not really kill him. Although it was implied in Prison Break Season 4 that Michael died because of a brain tumor, an extra episode revealed that he actually died while trying to get his wife out of prison. Michael chose that fate because he knew that he would eventually die because of the tumor.
FOX chairman Gary Newman previously confirmed to IGN that everything would be explained in the upcoming season. He confirmed that Prison Break Paul Scheuring was already tasked to pitch stories for the new season.
“What [Paul] pitched to us was a very logical and believable – in the world of ‘Prison Break’ – explanation for why our characters are alive and still moving around the world.”
Newman also said that Prison Break would not be a complete reboot but a “bit of a sequel” that “picks up the characters several years after we left them in the last season of the show.” Although he confirmed that iconic characters including the brothers would return, he didn’t reveal the entire cast members.
Netflix played a pivotal role in the producers’ decision to bring back the show. Newman was reportedly told by one of the streaming site’s executives that Prison Break“was one of the most successful library shows that they have platformed.”
“This is just one of those shows that notwithstanding it being off the air for five, six years, or however long it’s been, it still generates buzz and enthusiasm, especially online. So we think it’s going to be a great treat for the audience.”
