Oprah Winfrey’s OWN Network announced its new line-up of shows on Saturday. The latest additions to the network include two series produced by Tyler Perry .
The recent additions to OWN’s line-up include a number of scripted shows, several of which were developed by the Diary of a Mad Black Woman director. Tyler Perry’s The Haves and the Have Nots and Love Thy Neighbor are both set to debut on May 29.
Other programs scheduled to appear on the network include Blackboard Wars , Golden Sisters , Raising Whitley , and Dogfellas . All of the shows are slated to arrive on the OWN Network at various points throughout 2013.
OWN president Sheri Salata said in a recent press release that she was “optimistic” about the latest additions to the programming line-up.
She explained:
“All of these new programs reflect the best of the human spirit. From the funny to the dramatic, we are always shooting for to-the-bone real. Whether it’s Oprah’s in-depth conversations with celebrities and newsmakers, or our new scripted programming from Tyler Perry, the people and characters in these shows share experiences and life stories in relatable and authentic ways.”
Given the Alex Cross star’s recent success on the small screen, the network is banking on the aforementioned Perry shows being a huge success with viewers.
Written, directed, and produced by Tyler Perry, The Haves and the Have Nots is officially described as a “one-hour drama series following the dynamics of the affluent Cryer family and the impoverished family of Hanna, their housekeeper, and the obstacles and secrets that exist within both families.”
Love Thy Neighbor , which was also spearheaded by Perry, is a half-hour comedy “set at Love’s Diner, where every day the menu serves up good food, great laughs, valuable life lessons and a whole lot of love for its zany neighbors.”
