One Direction singer , Louis Tomlinson, has fulfilled a life-long dream by signing for Doncaster Rovers, however he is still unlikely to ever play for the team.
Tomlinson, who previously worked for the club as a match-day waiter, completed one of the most shocking transfers in soccer history by signing for the club. However, he only side for Rovers on a non-contract basis, and now Doncaster Rovers have looked to clarify the singer’s position with them.
They sent on two tweets explaining, “Just to confirm Louis will only play one game for the develop squad to raise funds and awareness for Bluebell Wood & DRFC.”
They then added, “ Louis will not be making any money from this, his sole aim is to raise funds and awareness for this charity for which he is a patron.”
Tomlinson wrote on Twitter, “Amazing day for me, such an honour to be part of @drfc_official! Who’s gonna come to a game?” Tomlinson will wear the number 28 shirt, whilst this will be his second appearance in the red and white of Doncaster as he previously played for them in 2012 when he payed in a friendly for the club.
Paul Dickov, who manages the club, joked, “He’d better get himself back over here. If he’s signed a contract he’s missed pre-season training already and he’s having a holiday in America so we’d better get him over pretty soon.”
He then added, “It’s fantastic he’s a Doncaster supporter because first and foremost it raises the profile of the club. We can get him in September time to do a bit of training, get him involved in a reserve game and the proceeds of that will go to charity.” Whilst, John Ryan, the chairman of Doncaster added that he was “honoured” to have Tomlinson play for the club.
