Being single in today’s world is not easy. Dating sites seem to be all the rage in dating connections, but even that is difficult when trying to find your one true soul mate. So, why would OkCupid chose to play games and experiment on their paying subscribers? One of the founders, Christian Rudder, says it was done to find better ways to match their members, according to Mashable .

“I’m the first to admit it: we might be popular, we might create a lot of great relationships, we might blah blah blah,” Rudder admits per E! Online . “But OkCupid doesn’t really know what it’s doing.” Great, so that is reassuring, right?

That is why Rudder and his team at OkCupid decided to try an experiment by manipulating data. In one experiment to determine if love is blind, OkCupid removed all photos from their member’s profiles. They discovered that people actually began messaging more without the photos. However, once the photos were restored, a majority of those conversations stopped. So, what? We discovered that we are a vain society.

The next experiment from OkCupid was to remove all text in the member’s profiles. And as reported by Fox News Insider , in some instances OkCupid “told people they were a 90 percent match with another date-seeker instead of a 30 percent match.” Was this to determine if opposites truly attract?

Greg Gutfeld says most people lie on their profiles anyway, so the mismatched may have actually become the perfect match.

Some OkCupid subscribers were not happy about the experimentation without their knowledge. But Christian Rudder makes no apologies for their actions. His response per E! Online was, “Guess what, everybody: if you use the internet, you’re the subject of hundreds of experiments at any given time, on every site. That’s how websites work.”
