Netflix is offering a fake New Year’s Eve countdown for parents who want their kids to go to bed hours before the Times Square Ball drops on Wednesday night. The on-demand countdown party is only three-minutes long, but may trick young children into thinking it’s midnight — or will it?

CNN Money reports that the countdown fake-out is hosted by King Julien from the Netflix series, All Hail King Julien , an animated show that features characters from DreamWorks film, Madagascar . It can be streamed on Netflix anytime parents want to fool their kids into thinking it’s midnight — even at 5 p.m. for Moms and Dad who want to get their kids to bed extra-early so they can enjoy a few adult beverages before they watch Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve .
Whether or not the three minute New Year’s Eve countdown will really fake kids into thinking its midnight is debatable. Parents will have to change every clock in the house if they want this to go off without a hitch. That means switching off the cable box if it has a clock on it, changing the time on the microwave, and shutting down your iPad and smartphone for a few hours.
That sounds like a lot of work, doesn’t it? After all, kids are smarter than ever these days, especially when it comes to technology, so they may find a way to check the time to make sure parents aren’t fibbing.
Chances are, many parents will want their kids to stay up and welcome in 2015 because that’s how memories are made. Just in case you think they might not make it that late (you may not either), turn on Netflix and let them watch the fake countdown just for fun.

Lifehacker states that watching King Julien and his animal friends party “like it’s 1999 in the jungle” will be “somewhat entertaining” for kids — so perhaps it will be for parents as well. If not, it’s only three minutes out of your day.
