The Mortal Kombat: Legacy movie might actually get produced according to director Kevin Tancharoen.

In a related report by The Inquisitr , after Mortal Kombat Legacy season 2 was finished Tancharoen actually quit for a time :

“After three years of ‘Mortal Kombat,’ I’ve decided to move on to other creative opportunities. I wish everyone involved in the movie big success. Thanks!”

Tancharoen directed the viral Mortal Kombat: Rebirth trailer and the Mortal Kombat Legacy web series. Lately, he’s been working with Eliza Dushku on a short film for Machinima called The Gable 5 , but during an interview he dropped the bomb that he’s trying to get Mortal Kombat Legacy season 3 approved for being made:

“We are starting to talk about it [Legacy Season 3] literally this week (knock on wood). I’m starting to talk to Warner Bros. and the video game creators, so hopefully we can see it through.”

Mortal Kombat Legacy season 2 left off in a major cliffhanger, and Tancharoen admits they “pissed off way too many people” with this little Matrix 2 type stunt. But he claims “Ed Boon and I are going to get together and chat and talk to Warner Bros. about figuring it out.” The director also revealed that their approach for filming the next part in the series will be different and also said that he’s pretty much ruled out a Mortal Kombat movie:

“With Legacy Season 1, it was kind of a big experiment. No one has done it before, and we didn’t know if should be an anthology or connected. We did the first one as an anthology and the second one more serialized. In the future, it will definitely be more connected and more cohesive…. We all feel right now that we have such a trajectory to the series. There are so many more stories to tell in that format.”

Be sure to check out the pitch trailer and season one and season two of Mortal Kombat Legacy. Are you disappointed that a Mortal Kombat movie won’t be coming down the pipeline any time soon?
