Katy Perry Sits Down With A Therapist On Viceland’s New Show, ‘The Therapist’

Katy Perry has been in the news a lot lately, sometimes for the right reasons, sometimes for the wrong ones. Whatever the reasons for her being in the news, she’s now made headlines because of her appearance on the season premiere of the new Viceland show, The Therapist , featuring Dr. Siri Sat Nam Singh.

In the official press release for the show, it was revealed that Katy Perry sat down with the world-renowned therapist because she was having problems reconciling her public persona and the private person that she really is. Perry, who is currently promoting Witness — both the new album and the new tour — is led through an intelligent discussion with Singh in an effort to reconcile the differences between the two halves of her.

Perry isn’t the first celebrity that Singh has treated.

“In addition to Katy Perry, Patients in session for this season of the series include: Hip Hop Artists Freddie Gibbs, Waka Flocka Flame, Young M.A., Dej Loaf, D.R.A.M., O.T. Genasis and rapper-turned-actor Joey Bada$$ (‘Mr. Robot’) as well as rock musicians Corey Taylor (of Slipknot), Nathan Williams (of Waaves) and Damien Abraham (of F*cked Up).”

Meanwhile, according to NME , Sufjan Stevens had a chance to listen to Witness , which is the next album in the Katy Perry repertoire.

You have to give Katy Perry credit: No matter what she’s going through, she always finds a way to work her butt off and get major props from fellow musicians.

And even though Stevens isn’t as well known in the United States as he is in England, his co-sign means a lot.

So, Stevens took to his Tumblr to reflect on the Katy Perry lyrics to “Déjà Vu,” and needless to say, he didn’t disappoint.

“Your words are like Chinese water torture…”

LORD JESUS HAVE MERCY.

And y’all thought it was weird when I wrote, ‘Tuesday night at the Bible study….’

Lord Jesus.

Katy Perry was probably at THAT SAME BIBLE STUDY.

We probably did popcorn prayer together.

I love this world.”

And yes, he wrote it exactly that way, because that’s just how Sufjan Stevens rolls, yo.

But not everything Katy Perry does is getting accolades. According to the New York Times , who recently did an interview with the pop star, Katy Perry feels that she has “grown,” both as a person and as an artist, and she doesn’t want to be a pop star anymore.

“In the knotty world of internet superfandom, the harshest takes often come from deep inside an artist’s nucleus of support. Fans were so concerned about Ms. Perry’s shifts on ‘Witness,’ they lasered in on Ms. Glucksman and demanded her ouster from the inner circle. (‘#FireLauren,’ tweeted one particularly vociferous account.) ‘People don’t let people grow,’ Ms. Perry said. ‘They just want a time capsule. And they want them to be one thing. And we have to start reimagining that.’”

Naturally, as the outlet suggests, people have not been reacting well to Katy Perry’s desire to grow as a person and as an artist, but frankly, that isn’t going to stop Katy Perry from doing what she wants, when she wants to do it. At the end of the day, according to the New York Times , she’s well within her right to do so.
