Remember the hyperbole that came out of the Department of Justice (DoJ) and entertainment industry trade groups when they successfully, and highly questionably, shut down Megaupload?
Here at The Inquisitr we covered the story pretty extensively and it hard to not see the totally glee of the trade groups when they managed to get Kim Dotcom, CEO/Owner of Megaupload, arrested and all of his assets seized. They didn’t care that there where probably thousands upon thousands of legitimate users of the service who lost access to their legal files.
While efforts are still ongoing to try and rectify that part of the whole thing something rather interesting has come out of this outcry on behalf of the legal users of Megaupload.
It seems that there were a great number of account on Megaupload for government officials, including US Senators and employees of the Department of Justice .
So here we have a government agency who used the claim that Megaupload was nothing more that a harbor for pirates and copyright infringers; and yet employees of the DoJ have no problem in using the service to host their own files. The same goes for the members of the US Congress, which if played right in court can only make the case against Megaupload a lot harder – as it should be.
The extent to which it is damning is that it sort of makes it tough for the DoJ to make the argument that MegaUpload was nothing but a pure infringement engine without admitting that they were part of it. Granted, this could be overcome with a little hypocrisy and refusal to address the existence of those accounts and what that means, a tactic which is far from out of the question.

I really hope that this type of information comes pack to bite the government prosecutors in this case on the ass.
