Is The Blac Chyna/Rob Kardashian Break Up A Publicity Stunt?

Blac Chyna publicly left Rob Kardashian on Saturday after Chyna’s Instagram account was allegedly hacked. The break up has conveniently arrived before Blac Chyna and Kardashian were supposed to air a baby special on their own Keeping Up With the Kardashians spin-off series, Rob & Chyna .

Saturday’s Instagram hack revealed Blac Chyna flirting with Jaden Smith and Young Thug and also showed a conversation the model had with a friend where she called Rob Kardashian “Lazy, fat, and insecure.” The Daily Beast reports that the hack also revealed Blac Chyna had planned to break up with Rob for a year and trademark her post-Kardashian name.

It’s unclear if Rob and Chyna’s breakup was only initiated by the Instagram hack. The couple has been dating since January 2016 and became engaged in April. The couple recently had their first baby, Dream, in November of this year. When they first became engaged, there was controversy among the other members of the Kardashian family who disapproved of Rob and Chyna’s relationship.

Blac Chyna has a number of associations that originally soured her relationship with the Kardashian clan. Chyna has a son with Kylie Jenner’s boyfriend Tyga, and she’s also friends with Amber Rose, Kanye West’s ex-girlfriend. However, People said that Chyna, Rob, and Tyga had squashed whatever beef was between them back in October when Kardashian and Chyna were promoting their reality series.

Kardashian and Blac Chyna’s breakup comes only one day before their Rob & Chyna baby special premiere on Sunday, which simply seems like bizarre timing. After Chyna left Rob, the reality show star took to social media to update his fans on the developments. According to USA Today , Kardashian posted a video on Instagram showing his empty house, stating, “Chyna took the baby, took the whole nursery. I’m pretty upset and I’m pretty sad, because it’s about to be Christmas, and I wanna be with my baby.”

The Kardashian brother continued to document his heartbreak on social media, but then he started posting memes making fun of himself and his situation. At one point Rob posted a meme of Will Smith on Fresh Prince of Bel Air with the caption, “Rob Kardashian currently at his house while Blac Chyna is gone.” Kardashian commented, “but she took the baby also and she took my eggos and my chips and my sweet baby rays BBQ sauce [sic].”

Although the timing of the breakup is extremely odd, Rob asserted on social media that the event was real “And this isn’t for some ratings, this is my real life,” the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star stated. However, he has continued to post self-deprecating memes such as a Home Alone homage with the subtitle, “A family comedy without the family.” Kardashian also superimposed Chyna’s face over The Grinch cartoon and shows her taking away Dream with the title “How the Chyna Stole Christmas.”

People react differently to bad situations, but Kardashian’s consistent presence on social media makes the breakup feel like it could be a set up. If Chyna and Rob’s breakup is just a publicity stunt, it’s not a very well planned one. The couple’s reality show, Rob & Chyna is scheduled to run a baby special about their child Dream on Sunday night and the series was just renewed for eight more episodes to air in 2017.

Even if the couple actually broke up, the E! reality series could continue. In fact, considering many critics thought Rob & Chyna was terrifically dull, the reality show may get a boost in ratings if the couple has extra drama. The series will most likely continue, but instead of watching Rob and Chyna do mundane tasks in their lavish house, now audiences will wonder if and when Chyna will get back together with Rob and where baby Dream factors into the whole thing.

In the world of the Kardashians, reality is irrelevant and “real life” experiences are constantly scripted. Rob has tried to avoid the fake Kardashian nature in the past, but he may be playing into it now. Either way, it’s still hard to tell if the Rob and Chyna breakup is a publicity stunt, but it might benefit the second season of their reality show.
