The U.S. President is now considering “taking a look” at those involved in the Gretchen Whitmer Kidnapping plot. After taking over the office, one of the most bizarre things that Donald Trump has done is granting over 1,500 pardons and commutations.
Among those who received leniency from the President were people charged or convicted in the January 6 Capitol attack. He also pardoned TV stars Todd and Julie Chrisley. They were convicted in 2022 of tax evasion and bank fraud.
Donald Trump continues to pardon this set of people, some of whom absolutely deserve to face the consequences of their actions, according to the masses. On Wednesday, the Republican leader created quite a stir after he declared that he would “take a look” at pardons for the men who were convicted of plotting the Gretchen Whitmer kidnapping, which was ultimately thwarted by authorities.
During an Oval Office press conference, a reporter asked Trump if he would pardon those involved in the plot. To this, he replied, “I’m gonna look at it. I will take a look at it. It’s been brought to my attention.”
To justify his statement, he cast further doubt over the fairness of convictions. “I did watch the trial. It looked to me like somewhat of a railroad job.” He added, “I’ll be honest with you. It looked to me like some people said some stupid things. They were drinking, and I think they said stupid things, but I’ll take a look at that.”
Before taking his next question, the President reiterated, “A lot of people are asking me that question, from both sides, actually. A lot of people think they got railroaded.”

Following his statement, many people were in disbelief that he would even consider pardoning the 14 individuals. “Nothing says ‘totally innocent’ like casually plotting to kidnap a governor while drinking,” one X (formerly Twitter) user mocked.
Another quipped, “Trump’s downplaying a plot to kidnap a sitting governor- Calls it ‘stupid talk’ over drinks. This isn’t leadership. It’s mafia logic. He’s not reviewing justice. He’s flirting with terrorism.”
A third chimed in, “So if someone were to say they wished to plan an attack on the White House or plan to physically harm a Republican politician, it’s ok as long as you’re drunk?”

For the unversed, a group of 14 men came up with a domestic terrorism plot to overthrow the government of Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, who is a Democrat. They intended to kidnap her from her vacation home before the 2020 presidential election. The vicious plan also included holding a mock “treason” trial to respond to her pandemic lockdown orders. The group also planned to detonate a bomb during their operation to distract the law enforcement.
However, as the FBI thwarted beforehand, the plan couldn’t be activated. Later, nine out of the 14 men were convicted. Several pleaded guilty, some cooperated, and some charges were also dropped.
