Heath Ledger died of an accidental overdose five years ago. On the fifth anniversary of Ledger’s death, his parents opened about their granddaughter Matilda. The Batman actor died on January 22, at the age of 28. The actor won an Oscar posthumously for his portrayal of The Joker in The Dark Knight .
Sally and Kim Ledger discussed Heath Ledger’s daughter during an interview with New Idea , an Australian magazine. Matilda, now 7, is also the daughter of Oscar nominated actress Michelle Williams . Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams met on the set of Brokeback Mountain during filming.
Ledger fans have often noted how much little Matilda resembles her famous father, Radar Online notes. Sally Ledger has this to say about her granddaughter during the New Idea interview:
“Matilda is indeed very much like her dad. She has long limbs and similar features. However, she also possesses the beauty of her mamma – lucky girl.”
Sally Ledger also noted how difficult the past five years have been for the family, the Huffington Post notes. She stated that not a day goes by that she and her husband do not feel a sense of immense loss.
Proud grandpa Kim Ledger noted during the interview with the Australian magazine that he and his wife have a wonderful relationship with Michelle Williams and Matilda. Heath Ledger’s father had this to say about the little girl:
“Matilda has the same walk as Heath and is such a respectful little kid. She calls us Papa and Grandma Sal. We talk frequently and visit as often as we can.”
