The status of Green Bay Packers receiver Greg Jennings remains unclear at the moment after the wide-out injured his groin during his team’s 30-22 loss to the 49ers on Sunday.
Jennings, who ended the contest with five catches for 34 yards and no touchdowns, reportedly suffered the injury on the final drive of the game.
It is unknown at this time if the 28-year-old athlete will be healed in time for the Packers’ game against the Chicago Bears on Thursday.
“Spoke to Greg after the game, he didn’t feel very good about it,” Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy said Monday night. “Spoke to him again (Monday) morning, feels better today than he did last night. Frankly, we really won’t know until we hit the practice field tomorrow as far as his status or his possible status for Thursday night.”
According to ESPN , Jennings will be re-evaluated Tuesday to determine if he can practice with the team.
Greg’s groin injury comes after he missed the final three regular-season games of 2011 because of a knee injury and was limited in training camp because of a concussion. The two-time Pro Bowler is in the final season of his $26 million contract signed with Packers in 2009.
If Jennings is unable to go against the Bears, expect James Jones (who caught four passes for 81 yards and TD against San Francisco) to take his spot opposite Jordy “Ounce” Nelson.
In addition to Jones and Nelson the Packers appear to have kept veteran Donald Driver on their roster mostly for insurance reasons.
ESPN wisely notes that the decision might pay off earlier than they had hoped.
