“Everyone Gets A Gun” is a new video in which NRA commentator Billy Johnson wants Second Amendment supporters and the government to consider enacting “gun-required zones” in the U.S. and for children to pass certain shooting requirements and skills in school in order to graduate.
According to Newsmax , the commentator in “Everyone Gets A Gun” asks viewers to think about subsidies for firing ranges and even allotments of ammunition.
“Sound crazy? Think about it. Education, healthcare, food, retirement – we subsidize things we value. Gun policy, driven by our need for guns, would protect equal access to guns, just like we protect equal access to voting and due process and free speech. Our Founding Fathers believed that we did need guns – that’s why they codified our access to guns in the Constitution,” Johnson said in the “Everyone Gets A Gun” video.
In the “Everyone Gets A Gun” video, Johnson points out that policies are often written to protect access to certain necessities and rights. Johnson suggests that the current U.S. gun policy is focused on limiting firearms instead of educating the public about firearms , according to The Raw Story . Gun education would start at an early age while children were still in school, and the courses would be mandatory.
“Just like we teach them reading and writing, necessary skills. We would teach shooting and firearm competency,” Johnson explained. “It wouldn’t matter if a child’s parents weren’t good at it. We’d find them a mentor. It wouldn’t matter if they didn’t want to learn. We would make it necessary to advance to the next grade.”
Those skeptical of the NRA’s message wonder if the NRA is trying to place itself as the sole organization of such a curriculum for its own advancement and financial benefit. They also believe that the NRA is attempting to entice younger generations that may not be as interested in guns.
On the other hand, supporters that side with the “Everyone Gets A Gun” video believe that guns are a fundamental part of America, that the Second Amendment should not be so strictly limited, and everyone should know how to safely and properly use firearms.
It is unlikely that the “Everyone Gets A Gun” video will spark anything but controversy. “Even as Second Amendment advocates, we can’t fathom a world where we would treat guns as a need,” Johnson admits.
