Donald Trump just took an inappropriate swipe at Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron’s marriage, possibly starting a feud with the French president. Admittedly, some things about the pair do make the headlines. However, it is certain that Emmanuel Macron didn’t expect his fellow world leaders to take a dig at his marriage, and in Trump’s case, he responded briefly but firmly.
This relates to a video of the couple from last year that went viral, which apparently showed Brigitte Macron taking a swing at her husband. In the clip, Emmanuel was pictured standing in the open door of his plane, just after he and his wife, Brigitte, landed in Vietnam.
What happened at that moment led to a major red flag speculations hanging over the couple’s marriage. In the clip, Brigitte appears to shove Emmanuel until he spots the cameras and offers a wave and a smile. However, that one little shove hasn’t been forgotten, particularly by President Donald Trump.
Donald Trump said:
“France President Emmanuel Macron’s wife treats him EXTREMELY BADLY.”
Trump was pointing to an incident where Brigitte Macron was pushing Macron in the face while arriving in Vietnam (2025).

Speaking at an Easter Lunch at the White House on April 1, Trump recalled a conversation he had apparently had with Emmanuel Macron. “Then I call up France, Macron – whose wife treats him extremely badly – he’s still recovering from the right to the jaw. And I say, ‘Emmanuel, we’d love to have some help in the Gulf,’” he said.
Trump mocks Macron again:

Trump then started imitating the French President’s accent, while poking fun at Macron’s response. Macron was not impressed and responded to the US President.
The day after Trump’s joked about him and his marriage, Emmanuel Macron was speaking to reporters in South Korea. He was quick to dismiss Trump’s statement, saying it was “neither elegant nor up to standard.” According to the Guardian, that was all he felt he had to say, clarifying simply, “I am not going to respond to them – they do not merit a response.”
Naturally, Macron has other matters on his mind besides Trump’s dig at his marriage, and chose to say no more on the subject. However, he was more forthcoming on his feelings about Trump’s behavior in the war in Iran, along with his remarks against NATO.
“When we’re serious, we don’t say the opposite of what we said the day before every day, and maybe one shouldn’t speak every day,” Macron explained. According to him, “We just need to calm things down and build lasting peace.”
However, Macron did make another reference to Trump’s behavior, saying, “If you create doubt every day about your commitment, you hollow it out,” adding, “When you’ve signed a treaty […] You live up to the commitments you’ve signed. You don’t comment on them every morning.”
After learning of Macron’s response on Trump and the conflict in Iran, it seems his best advice is to keep his mouth shut, something that is unlikely to happen.
