Ed Sheeran wants the world to know that he doesn’t want to pound Niall Horan’s adorable face into the pavement for allegedly stealing his girlfriend.

Here’s some backstory for those who aren’t familiar with Sheeran’s history with the One Direction singer. According to legend, Sheeran and Horan had a falling out while the “Don’t” singer was dating British songstress Ellie Goulding . At some point during their relationship, she reportedly cheated on Ed with Niall at a hotel… while Sheeran was downstairs in the lobby. That’s definitely got to sting a little.

Depending upon who you choose to ask about this prickly situation, the tale is either God’s honest truth or an enormous crock of monkey snot. Regardless of what actually happened during this British love triangle, Ed Sheeran told Metro he doesn’t have any hard feelings towards Horan. In fact, the two partied together earlier this year.

“I hadn’t seen him in a year, and that was the first time I saw him. So yeah it was fine, normal.”

There doesn’t appear to be too much bad blood between Ed Sheeran and the One Direction singer at the moment. Sheeran recently penned a song for the group, a little ditty known as “Steal Your Girl.” Although it is a little strange that the group would record such a song when rumors about Sheeran and Horan’s feud are making the rounds, apparently they’re not willing to let drama get in the way of a good single.

Of course, this isn’t the first time someone has asked Sheeran about his relationship with Horan. During his recent interview with Howard Stern , Ed discussed the rumor that “Don’t” was penned in response to the Ellie Goulding fiasco. Although Sheeran didn’t give away too many details, he did admit that it was a pretty difficult situation.

“I didn’t really come out of that situation upset. I was just pissed off. I just thought it was a bit disrespectful… It’s a difficult conversation to have… He was my mate, so I was just a bit like, ‘um not cool, but…’”

Ed Sheeran definitely has a lot to get excited about these days. According to BBC News , the singer’s acclaimed sophomore record, X , is the biggest album in the UK so far this year. Here’s hoping Sheeran can hang on to this title when the plethora of new albums arrive before the end of the year. He certainly has a lot of competition.
