The onset of the shutdown is one of Donald Trump’s own stunts backfiring royally, now bringing nightmares to one of his biggest vote banks: America’s farmers. With people left clueless about what comes next as policies stall, the days are becoming especially weary for the nation’s agricultural sector. Amid the crossfire of blame games and mismanaged funds between the Democrats and Republicans, some of the essential services of the nation now stand a big chance to be shaken to their core, all thanks to the Trump orders.

Just days into the shutdown, thousands of civil servants have already been furloughed, including 86,000 employees from the Department of Agriculture alone. The workforce deficiency, when combined with the stringent policies of shutdown, has now been acting like a double whammy on the U.S. farmers, a portion of the American economy which Donald Trump has repeatedly chalked out as his strongest point. Unlike other volatile circumstances, the shutdown has hit these farmers at an extreme level.

While more minor issues like pest outbreaks, heavy rainfall, and disease do stand a chance to reduce the money brought back home by the farmer. In most such cases, it has always been the USDA that would immediately set out with the task of providing aid to these farmers and lessening their economic burden in the usual cases through various services like loans, disaster assistance, supportive payments, and more. But this time, with the shutdown in place, things have gone from bad to worse.

Now that the financial crisis is artificial and purely political, the chances of all such programs and negotiations to provide relief to the farmers have been put on hold until further notice. This has led to an exorbitant inflation of the tariffs, something which is not less than becoming an ‘insult to injury’ for the farmers. Interestingly, as the farmers continue to wait in the hope of getting some assistance, the U.S. President and Russel Vought, the director of the Office of Management and Budget, continue to point fingers at the Democrats and other opponents, without actually coming up with a real plan to save the farmers and deliver meaningful help.

Meanwhile, a statement received by Huffpost in the form of a comment on the ongoing crisis for the farmers continues to push the blame on the Democrats, accusing them of having blocked billions of dollars in disaster relief payments, which were meant to be directed towards the farmers.

The statement read “The Democrats are blocking billions in disaster relief payments from reaching farmers – relief they voted for. Senate Democrats shut down the government on the eve of one of the worst farm economies. America’s farmers and producers are left stranded because the Democrats are prioritizing billions in healthcare for illegal immigrants and transgender surgeries.”

Republicans, on the other hand, continue to insist that help is on the way for stranded farmers. According to U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins, Trump has always been committed to the betterment and welfare of the farmers at all costs. She added, “Right now, the farm economy is not in a good place. We’re working around the clock. The president has committed to supporting our farmers, and we’ll have an announcement on that very soon, likely next week.”

Trump created this mess for our farmers, and now he’s bailing out Argentina with 20 billion dollars and they are selling their soybeans to
