Carowinds Amusement Park in Charlotte, North Carolina, just released POV footage of the new Fury 325 roller coaster, soon to be the world’s tallest, fastest “giga-coaster.” With heights above the Statue of Liberty and a top speed of 95 miles per hour, people are starting to wonder if it will be too scary to ride.
According to the Huffington Post , Fury 325 is frightening in a variety of ways. Its highest point is 325 feet tall, roughly 20 feet taller than the statue of liberty. The roller coaster also features a 81-degree drop and peak speeds of 95 miles per hour. The full track for the Carowinds’ coaster is 6,602-feet-long — also record-setting for a steel roller coaster.
It’s being touted by the NBC affiliate WLTX as the tallest, fastest “giga-coaster” — an industry term used to describe 300-399 feet tall coasters that have a drop of over 300 feet and complete a full circuit. It should not be confused with the Formula Rossa roller coaster in Dubai, which can hit speeds of 149 miles per hour, or Superman: Escape from Krypton , which has a height of 415 feet.
Of course, the Fury 325 isn’t about breaking a single record. It’s about combining elements of speed, height, and motion to provide intense thrills.
The Fury 325 roller coaster is just one part of Carowinds’ $50 million expansion.
According to Travel Pulse , before the Carowinds’ Fury 325, the record for tallest giga-coaster went to the Steel Dragon in Nagashima Spa Land, in Mie Prefecture, Japan. It is 318 feet tall.
The roller coaster will debut to the general public on March 28, giving enthusiasts a chance to see for themselves if it truly is too scary to ride.
