The fatal murder of Los Angeles-based drill rapper Avanti Frowner in June 2020 has somewhat reached closure. On Tuesday, the prime suspect in the pharmacy robbery in broad daylight was sentenced to 20 years behind bars. For context, 27-year-old Isiah Garett shot Avanti a dozen times that day, as the robbery went horribly wrong inside a pharmacy.
The verdict has left the deceased rapper’s family in complete shock. They were stunned by the fact that the perpetrator could one day walk freely on the streets on parole. Avanti Frowner’s brother, Roger Frowner Jr., reacted to the news and stated, “Giving him the possibility of parole is crazy.”
For the unversed, Avanti was visiting NYC ahead of his performance. That day, he had stepped inside the Amazing Pharmacy on East Tremont Avenue along with a friend to buy medicines. What could have been a regular purchase turned gruesome when Isiah and two of his accomplices robbed Avanti and his friend outside the store.
The robbers demanded their gold chains, money, and any other valuable property that the two had on them. They were then forced back into the pharmacy at gunpoint. A violent struggle ensued soon after.

In retaliation, the rapper was then mercilessly attacked by the three robbers inside the store. They forced him to the floor and beat him brutally. Delivering the final blow, it was Isiah who shot Avanti 12 times in the torso, killing him instantly. The disturbing footage was captured on camera. Three of the suspects fled the crime scene almost immediately, taking the cash and gold they had looted from Frowner.
Onlookers called paramedics, and a grievously wounded Avanti Frowner was rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, he succumbed and died later that day.
While Garett pleaded guilty to first-degree murder on March 3, 2026, he was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison. The verdict outlines that Isiah must serve the given years before becoming eligible for parole.
At the time of the verdict, Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark highlighted the callousness of the crime. Addressing Isiah, he said, “He callously murdered Frowner and put everyone in the pharmacy and on the street at risk.”
The other accomplices had fled to Georgia after the incident. The NYPD issued a manhunt to locate them, and they were later arrested.

One of them, Nayshon White, was next to plead guilty to first-degree manslaughter. He too faces a 20-year sentence on May 29, 2026. The remaining accomplices have pending cases to their names, as prosecution efforts continue over their involvement.
Meanwhile, the demise of 27-year-old Avanti Frowner has been deeply mourned within the musical fraternity, particularly the hip-hop circle. The rapper who was popularly known as ‘Vontae’ enjoyed a considerable fan base, and several fans have poured in their tributes over the loss of a young artist like him.
