There’s throwing people under the bus, and then there’s what Bret Easton Ellis thinks about Lindsay Lohan. Ellis, who was just one of a few people behind the debacle that was The Canyons , isn’t exactly someone who kept quiet through any stage of the Lindsay Lohan vehicle. Serving as the film’s writer, Ellis is sounding off even more, and what he has to say about the failure of the film seems to all ride on Lohan’s shoulders, at least in his opinion.

Even before The Canyons came out, much was speculated about how Lindsay Lohan was a huge liability. When reports were leaked that Lohan showed up to set late, it wasn’t really a surprise given her track record, and then the whole production was opened wide by a New York Times expose titled “Here Is What Happens When You Cast Lindsay Lohan In Your Movie.”

The feature was in full detail of all of the troubles the actress caused the production. Although it wasn’t a shock to hear some of the allegations fueled at Lohan, it was still unbelievable to have every altercation and tiff out there in great detail.

For writer Bret Easton Ellis, is seems as though the saying hindsight is 20/20 is true.. Opening up on his podcast, Bret said of Lindsay’s role in the film:

“I think where we went wrong was with the casting of Lindsay Lohan. Now I don’t mean she wasn’t good in it, she was very good in the movie. I mean that suddenly The Canyons has become the Lindsay Lohan film.”

Think what you may about Bret Easton Ellis, but the writer did go on to admit that the image of Lindsay Lohan was beyond their control, and it could be suggested that Lohan’s reputation isn’t under her control even if it started out of her own making:

“We thought the movie was ultimately going to step out of that shadow, that it was going to speak for itself and that people would be more interested in how we made this movie… But we didn’t. We didn’t step out of the Lindsay Lohan shadow, and it did affect the way the movie was perceived.”

Bret isn’t the only person who feels this way about Lindsay. Her co-star and adult film star James Deen hadn’t sugar-coated the process during promo for The Canyons , and likened working with Lindsay was like working “with a child.”

Do you think The Canyons would of had a better fate if Lindsay Lohan wasn’t in the film?
