If you ask members of his family, Amy Winehouse’s ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil is responsible for her death. According to his brother, Blake Fielder-Civil is the person who introduced Winehouse to hard drugs, which were partially responsible for Winehouse’s early death at the age of 27.
Blake Fielder-Civil has had enough of being the scapegoat, though, and he’s ready to set the record straight. According to the Guardian , Fielder-Civil gave an interview to the Times Magazine in which he defended himself, saying that Winehouse had addiction problems prior to their meeting.
“I don’t think I ruined her, no. I think we found each other and certain people need to realize that she did have other addictions before she met me. She wasn’t a happy, well-adjusted young woman… and I find it disrespectful to imply I was some machiavellian puppet master.”
Blake’s brother, Harry Fielder-Civil , disagrees. As the Inquisitr previously reported, Harry said he didn’t talk to Blake Fielder-Civil for years.
Winehouse, who was a British-born musician, died in 2011 at the age of 27. The official cause of death was alcohol poisoning.
Blake Fielder-Civil’s comments come just ahead of the release of Amy , which is a much anticipated documentary about the life of Winehouse . The biopic is scheduled to be released in July. The biopic is said to follow Winehouse’s entire life, beginning with childhood, including her marriage to Fielder-Civil.
The pair married in 2007 and remained married for two years. After their marriage, Blake and Amy continued with a tumultuous on-again-off-again relationship.
During the same interview in which Fielder-Civil distanced himself from Amy’s death, he also mentioned that he still loves his ex-wife.
“I’m in love with someone who is not here. I think about her every day. I’m a bit stuck now, thinking, ‘How do I move on?’”
Fielder-Civil, who reportedly has been off drugs for a year, went on to say that every day feels like a punishment, and that he’d like to reconcile with the family of his ex-wife.
Reconciliation isn’t likely to happen, though, as Winehouse’s father, Mitch, has called Blake Fielder-Civil “the biggest low-life scumbag that God ever put breath into,” according to the Guardian .
“I’d like to speak to Mitch and genuinely, genuinely plea for his forgiveness [for any] parts I’ve played in what has occurred, but I won’t take responsibility for Amy passing away because it’s not fair.”
