Just in time for the release of the new iPad , AT&T announced today that next month it will begin expanding its 4G LTE service to 11 new markets including Baton Rouge and St. Louis, to name a couple.
According to AT&T, its 4G LTE network will soon be made available in the following markets: St. Louis, Missouri; Staten Island, new York; Naples, Florida; Bloomington, Lafayette, and Muncie, Indiana; Baton Rouge and New Orleans, Louisiana; Akron, Canton and Cleveland, Ohio; and Bryan-College Station, Texas.
Before you go out and buy a new iPad in hopes of taking advantage of its 4G LTE capabilities on AT&T’s network, the company said that the process will be gradual. More markets will be added starting in April, but the entire rollout of extended 4G availability won’t be complete until the early portion of summer. Cleveland, Ohio will be the first to receive the 4G LTE upgrade.
AT&T has been making a big push lately to get its 4G LTE network available in more and more markets, but it’s still falling pretty far behind its fiercest competitor, Verizon. Currently, AT&T’s 4G LTE network is only available in 28 different markets; Verizon, on the other hand, has expanded its 4G LTE availability to 196 markets, and Verizon isn’t showing any signs of slowing down.
Do you want to see AT&T’s 4G LTE network available in your area, or are you content with 3G speeds?
