Anne Hathaway ‘Diet’ For Les Mis Was Oatmeal Paste, ‘Near-Starvation’ Look Was The Goal

Anne Hathaway’s diet for Les Miserables was one that was fitting for a peasant, but perhaps those looking to emulate celebrity weight-loss success should look to another star for inspiration — unless you like gruel.

Anne Hathaway’s diet may come as a surprise since the last time we saw the young Hollywood a-lister. She looked fit and amazing as Selina Kyle — also known as Catwoman. Hathaway rocked her catsuit as the badass and capable female foil to Batman in The Dark Knight Rises , but the role of a starving French peasant meant the slim star needed to take extreme dieting seriously.

In an upcoming issue of Vogue, Anne Hathaway’s diet was one of the topics discussed as she dished on her role as Fantine in the pending release of the film version of Les Miserables. Hathaway didn’t discuss the strict regime as pre-role business as usual, admitting that the steps she took to prepare were not, to her, necessarily pleasant or healthy.

Hathaway said:

“I had to be obsessive about it – the idea was to look near death … Looking back on the whole experience – and I don’t judge it in any way – it was definitely a little nuts. It was definitely a break with reality, but I think that’s who Fantine is anyway.”

So what about Anne Hathaway’s diet was “a little nuts?” The star admits that after initially losing ten pounds — and remember, this is the lady in the shiny black catsuit — she dropped another 15 by eating just “two thin pieces of oatmeal paste” per day.

Are you impressed by Anne Hathaway’s Les Mis preparation diet, or does the eating plan sound dangerous for a star subject to the rigors of filming?
