Adam Lanza reportedly called a University of Oregon radio station one year before he opened fire inside Sandy Hook Elementary School. Although the caller disguises his voice and claims his name is “Greg,” those who knew Lanza said it is definitely him.

Throughout the call, “Greg” discusses a tragic incident involving a chimpanzee named Travis. In 2009, the domesticated chip had a violent outburst. He subsequently attacked and severely injured 55-year-old Charla Nash, a friend of his owner, Sandra Herold.

The caller, who is assumed to be Adam Lanza, discussed Travis’ possible motive:

“… his attack wasn’t simply because he was a senselessly violent, impulsive chimp… which was how his behavior was universally portrayed… looking at his entire life … some little thing he experienced was the last straw… “

Even more chilling, “Greg” compared the chimpanzee’s attack to impulsive and violent human behavior :

“His attack can be seen entirely parallel to the attacks and random acts of violence… committed by humans, which the mainstream also has no explanation for I just don’t think it would be such a stretch to say that he very well could have been a teenage mall shooter or something like that.”

In addition to acquaintances recognizing the voice, there is more evidence suggesting the caller is indeed Adam Lanza. A search warrant, provided by the Connecticut State Police, reveals Lanza was a regular on a message board, which focused on the 1999 Columbine High School Massacre.

As reported by Sandy Hook Lighthouse , Lanza’s username , Smiggles, is identified in the warrant. Interestingly, a user named Smiggles was a regular on the Shocked Beyond Belief blog, which is subtitled “The new home of the Super Columbine Massacre RPG Discussion Forum.”

On September 13, 2011, the user named Smiggles discussed Travis the chimp’s violent outburst and his subsequent death. The user also compares tribute videos featuring the chimp to tributes made for “murderers like Alyssa Bustamante.” At the age of 15, Bustamante killed her 9-year-old neighbor.

On September 10, 2011, Smiggles suggested that he ought to call John Zernan’s radio show to discuss the infamous chimp.

On December 20, 2011, John Zernan received a call during his Anarchy Radio show, broadcast by the University of Oregon. The caller, who is thought to be Adam Lanza, went on a rant about Travis the chimp. The strange call is filled with innuendos about children, parenting, societal expectations, and impulsive violence.

Smiggles discussed the call on the Shocked Beyond Belief blog, stating that the call “didn’t go as horribly” as he expected.

Other posts by the user seem to foreshadow his future crime. Unfortunately, the user’s posts suggest he is obsessed with death, mass murder, and weapons.

Although it is not confirmed by authorities, the evidence suggests the caller in the recording was likely Adam Lanza.
