Alex Rodriguez’s suspension is well deserved and “eminently fair,” according to MLB commissioner Bud Selig.
A-Rod was suspended last week for 211-games after he was found to be accepting performance enhancing drugs (PEDs) from a medical facility. Twelve other players accepted a 50-game suspension, but A-Rod believed that was too high of a penalty for using PEDs.
Speaking to reporters in Cooperstown, New York, the MLB commissioner revealed:
“I know why I did it, and what I did. I thought it was eminently fair then and I think it’s eminently fair today. I spent many, many hours thinking about it.”
Selig added, “Trying to be fair, trying to be logical and rational. And the one thing you learn in this job after 20-something years, I wouldn’t second-guess it today at all.
A-Rod’s suspension is currently being appealed which means the disgraced New York Yankees all-star will continue to play amid a bevy or rather constant boos.
Bud Selig has received praise from some MLB fans and hatred from others. Speaking about the tough decision and its division of support, Selig reveals:
“I can’t control what other people say and do. I have a job to do, and the job is to protect the integrity of the sport and enforce our program, and that’s what I’m going to do. It’s no more involved than that, and that’s exactly what it is.”
