As expected, the Huawei Ascend P2 has made its official Android-based debut at MWC in Barcelona, Spain.
The P2 is a Google Android 4.1 Jelly Bean based device that features the Huawei Emotion UI. The smartphone offers a 4.7-inch display that outputs 720p HD alongside 315 pixel density for outdoor use. The screen also features an 85-degree viewing angle, 500 nits brightness, and Gorilla Glass 2 with scratch resistance.
When asked why it went with 1280x720p resolution rather then 1920×1280, the company claims, “Your eyes can’t identify higher resolution than this.”
Powering the phone is a 1.5GHz quad-core processor and 1GB RAM that also delivers processing to its 13-megapixel camera. The Huawei Ascend P2 even provides a dedicated camera button, facial recognition in the gallery by contact, and low-light performance plus HDR mode. On the front-side, a 1.3-megapixel camera is included.
The P2 also features 16GB internal storage and 2,420mAh battery.
The Ascend P2 features a new look for Huawei that offers a sleek, glossy finish with a black front and a white back. The screen also creeps towards the smartphones edges to capitalize on screen realty without over expanding the devices size. The device is thin at just 8.6 millimeters, which helps its compact design.
Original reports suggested the device would feature a 1.8GHz quad-core processor, 2GB RAM, and 8GB internal storage.
The Huawei Ascend P2 is expected to be released in mid-2013 at a cost of 450 euros.
No word yet on a US release or pricing in North America .
