Baton Rouge, Louisiana — Louisiana State University has been evacuated due to a bomb threat, and little information is available as to the nature of the threat as students filter off campus due to the potential danger.
Louisiana State University’s lsu.edu reports a single message in red at the top of the screen with no further updates thusfar.
“A bomb threat has been reported on the LSU Campus. Please evacuate as calmy and quickly as possible. Check lsu.edu for updates. LSUEOC”
The LSU site has not been updated on the bomb threat since the original warning, but NOLA.com explains that scheduled activities were interrupted as word of the LSU bomb threat circulated:
“The reporters gathered for LSU Coach Les Miles’ weekly press conference also were asked to leave the school’s athletic administration building and at around 11:55 a.m. LSU Sports Information Direction Michael Bonnette sent out a news release canceling the press conference …”
The site continues:
“All classes were canceled and cars were streaming off campus creating bumper-to-bumper traffic around the campus.A constant stream of worried, confused and wet students made their way off campus through the driving rain after the LSU Emergency Operations Center order a full campus evacuation today around 11:30 a.m.”
Students and staff were alerted to the LSU bomb threat via text messaging, and those without cars were advised to report to Evangeline Hall or Broussard Hall to await further evacuation instructions.
Police and campus officials have not released any further information about the LSU bomb threat, and Facebook pages for campus security have not mentioned the evacuation.
