Dakota Johnson has reportedly separated from her boyfriend, Drowners guitarist Matthew Hitt — or at least that’s what Ms. Johnson would like the public to believe. It now seems that Dakota has staged the break-up with Hitt to appease Fifty Shades of Grey fans.
Although the pair had apparently broken up, sources reported that Dakota and Matthew were seen together on the set of Ms. Johnson’s latest project, How To Be Single . Although Johnson and Hitt announced their breakup in December, they have recently been spotted together several times since that time in intimate circumstances.
Many suspect that the reportedly faux breakup has been a ploy on Dakota’s part to help build expectations among Fifty Shades of Grey fans, especially since it has just recently been announced that Dakota Johnson would be returning in her role as Anastasia Steele in Fifty Shades Darker , due out in 2017, and Fifty Shades Freed , scheduled for a 2018 release.
Following the release of Fifty Shades of Grey, Dakota Johnson was linked to her married co-star Jamie Dornan in the media, though nothing inappropriate ever occurred between Johnson and Dornan. Fan speculation that there was something illicit between Ms. Johnson and Mr. Dornan increased interest in the Fifty Shades of Grey film, which seems to have encouraged Dakota to keep her relationship with Hitt under the radar.
Although sources report that Dakota does remain faithful to Matthew , she tries to limit the attention she gets when in Hitt’s company. Most of the time, sources report that Dakota prefers the company of her pet.
“The 25-year-old actress spent some quality time with her pet pooch, Zeppelin, in New York City,” a source close to Ms. Johnson stated. “With the pooch safely attached to a leather leash, Dakota was free to take a pleasant walk with her best friend and a cup of coffee.”
As another source suggests, it may be that Ms. Johnson did separate from Hitt and that the couple has recently reunited. Dakota has admitted to having her relationship with Matthew on her mind, even during the reported break-up, and Ms. Johnson may have decided to give her romance with Hitt another try.
Maybe Dakota wants to try out those props she borrowed from the set of Fifty Shades of Grey last year; Ms. Johnson would definitely need a partner for that flogger to be of much use.
Currently, Dakota Johnson can be seen in theaters in Black Mass , co-starring Johnny Depp.
