Integra Telecom owns the right to the “Nexus” trademark and for fear of confusing consumers the US Trademark Office announced this week that the “Nexus One” trademark has been officially denied.
Integra originally purchased the name in 2008 as part of their telecommunications programs, specicially voice/data transmission services. Since the phone and the Integra brands would exist in the same trade the request by Google was denied.
Google can appeal the decision for up to six months, although we assume that appeal will come sooner rather than later. For the time being Google can continue to use the Nexus One name in the hope that Integra doesn’t sue the company over the trademark. Google can also choose to settle the issue with Integra before any further actions are taken. [Crave]
