A Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge update are currently rolling out in Italy, according to a report from GSM Arena . After installing the latest firmware update, these 2016 flagship smartphones are going to be the first ones to actually have Samsung’s storage service.

Samsung Cloud was first introduced with the recently launched Samsung Galaxy Note 7. And as noted on Android Authority , since the freshest generation of Samsung phablet won’t be officially hitting the shelves in a few days, this only means that the update currently available for the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge will make these handset devices the first ones to get the Samsung Cloud.

Samsung Cloud is the South Korean tech giant’s new cloud storage service , which, as described by Sam Mobile , functions as an “extension of the Smart Switch feature” that allows users to transfer data to and from their Samsung devices.

“Samsung Cloud will aid users by regularly backing up the device’s data including but not limited to apps, settings, files and layouts regularly to the cloud,” it added.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is expected to get 15 GB of free storage from the Samsung Cloud service. According to Android Geeks , there has been no clear information yet as to how much free storage is allocated for the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge units, although several reports are suggesting it could also be 15 GB.

The update available for Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge does not only bring in the Samsung Cloud service, but it also contains the August security patch, which will further strengthen the safety of these phones, according to Team Android . The 152 MB firmware update also includes enhancements to NFC and Bluetooth performance.

Right now, reports suggest that the latest Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge update is currently available only in Italy. However, this should not be a reason for owners in other countries to get discouraged about not having the update yet, because the firmware is expected to reach other regions as well. However, some users might have to wait for a bit longer since, similar to all Over-the-Air (OTA) update cases, the firmware is being released in stages.

Once the firmware update becomes available via OTA, an automatic push notification should appear on the user’s Samsung Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge smartphone. They simply have to follow the on-screen prompts to push through with the download and installation process.

To manually verify the availability of the update, Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge owners can head to the smartphone’s Settings menu, select About Device, tap Software Update, and choose Check for Updates. The system will then look for any firmware update available for the smartphone.

A separate post from Sam Mobile noted that besides the OTA update method, Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge users eager to get the newest firmware can also use the Smart Switch PC tool.

Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge officially hit the market in March of this year. The obvious distinction between these two flagship models is the curved edge screen model of the standard Galaxy S7 device. The smartphones arrived out of the box with pre-installed Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS.

The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge are both equipped under the hood with Exynos 8 Octa and 4 GB of RAM, the comparison of these phone’s specs on Phone Arena noted. When it comes to the camera, S7 and S7 Edge are the first ones to feature the dual pixel technology, with the primary shooter having a 12 MP lens sensor while the front-facing selfie cam is equipped with a 5MP lens.

The standard Samsung Galaxy S7 features a 5.1-inch display, while the S7 Edge offers a 5.5-inch screen. The display screen of both smartphones has Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen and resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and is well-protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4. Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge have a pixel density of 576ppi and 534ppi, respectively. These two mobile devices are both IP68-certified.
