Sir Elton John is recovering at home after having surgery to remove his appendix. The singer was forced to cancel several shows last month after being diagnosed with appendicitis.

The Rocket Man singer underwent the surgery at Monaco’s Prince Grace Hospital on Thursday, according to his publicist. After a successful operation, he was discharged to recover at home.

Sir Elton struggled through 10 concerts in pain before he was forced to walk off stage in the middle of a show in Halle, Germany, on July 5, reports The Huffington Post.

Doctors advised Sir Elton to cancel the remaining dates on his current tour, including a performance at London’s Hyde Park last month. He told The Sun at the time that he was a “ticking time bomb” and “could have died at any time.”

Thankfully, that didn’t happen. After going through several rounds of antibiotics to combat what he called an “appendix abscess surrounding retrocaecal appendicitis,” the singer finally underwent surgery.

Elton John posted a message on his official website about the illness, thanking fans for their support. The Daily Mail notes that the singer commented , “Your well wishes have touched me deeply and will play a big part in my recovery.”

Surgery to remove his appendix is just one of a few health scares the popular singer has had recently. Last year, Sir Elton was forced to cancel several shows because of a respiratory infection. Food poisoning also sidelined him for a few concert dates.

Once he is fully recovered, Sir Elton John is expected to attend an event in central London on September 2. He will perform and also welcome a number of guests as he is handed the Brits Icon Award. His forthcoming album, The Diving Board, is also due to be released on September 16. It is the first studio recording for Elton since 2006’s The Captain & The Kid.

in the meantime, Sir Elton John will recover from surgery at home with his husband and their two boys.
